Questions & Answers

25 things people ask before booking.

Do you offer a diagnostic before quoting a repair?
Yes. Every repair starts with a full diagnostic so the quote you receive is based on the actual fault, not guesswork.
How long does a typical repair take?
Most standard repairs are completed within 24–72 hours. Complex hardware faults or parts sourcing may take slightly longer.
Will I lose my data during a repair?
Data preservation is the default. Where an intervention risks data, you will always be consulted first and a backup taken where possible.
Do you repair both Windows and Mac computers?
Yes. I service Windows PCs (desktops and laptops) and Apple Mac systems including MacBooks and iMacs.
Do you offer a warranty on repairs?
Yes — every repair carries a workmanship warranty. Faulty parts supplied by me are covered by their own manufacturer warranty.
Can you upgrade my old laptop instead of replacing it?
In most cases, yes. An SSD and RAM upgrade transforms most machines from five years ago and is far cheaper than replacement.
How do I know if my computer is beyond economical repair?
I will always tell you honestly. If the cost of repair approaches or exceeds a sensible replacement, I recommend against it.
Do you remove viruses and ransomware?
Yes. I use professional multi-layer scanning and manual removal techniques, followed by a hardening pass to reduce reinfection risk.
Can you install specific software I need for work or study?
Yes. Licensed software provided by you can be installed, activated and configured as part of a service.
What if my computer will not turn on at all?
This is a common scenario. Diagnostics can usually identify whether it is a power, board, storage or display issue and recommend the correct next step.
Do you offer remote support?
Some software issues can be resolved remotely using secure tools. Hardware issues require the device to be on the bench.
Is my personal data kept private?
Absolutely. All devices are handled under a strict data privacy policy. Data is never accessed beyond what is necessary for the repair.
Do you replace laptop screens and keyboards?
Yes, subject to parts availability for your specific model. A quote for parts is always provided before purchase.
Can you help set up a new computer?
Yes — new PC setup, data migration, software installation, backup configuration and security hardening are all available.
Do you provide invoices for business clients?
Yes. Fully itemised invoices suitable for business accounting are provided on request.
How is payment taken?
Repairs are paid via secure Stripe checkout. Bank transfer is available for business clients on request.
Do you take deposits?
For services requiring parts to be ordered, a deposit covering the parts cost may be requested. This is disclosed upfront.
Can you recover data from a dead hard drive?
Basic recovery from failing but functional drives is often possible. Severely damaged drives require specialist cleanroom services which I can advise on.
Do you clean and re-paste laptops for cooling issues?
Yes. Thermal repaste and internal cleaning are common maintenance services that dramatically improve older laptops.
Can you migrate me from one computer to another?
Yes — a full data and settings migration service is available as part of the upgrade and setup services.
What preventative maintenance do you recommend?
Regular updates, sensible antivirus, a working backup routine and an annual health check for older machines.
Do you fix gaming PCs?
Yes. GPU diagnostics, cooling upgrades, PSU replacement and full builds are all supported.
Can I contact you after a repair with questions?
Yes. Follow-up questions about the work performed are included and always welcome.
Are your prices inclusive of VAT?
As a sole trader operating below the VAT threshold, prices are inclusive and no VAT is added.
